"Farmer." A person who engages in activities, practices and procedures to produce and prepare for market poultry, livestock and their products or who engages in the production and harvesting of agricultural, agronomic, horticultural, silvicultural and aquacultural crops and commodities and whose operation is conducted on not less than ten contiguous acres in area or, if less than ten contiguous acres in area, has an anticipated yearly gross income of at least ten thousand dollars (,000). Firefighter and Emergency Service Training.--(a) Beginning with the 2003-2004 school year and each school year thereafter, a school district may offer firefighter and emergency service training as credit-earning courses to students of the age of sixteen (16) years or older. (p) The following words and phrases when used in this section shall have the meanings given to them in this subsection unless the context clearly indicates otherwise: "Commission." The Commission for Agricultural Education Excellence established under this section. (3) Provide support and technical assistance to supervised agricultural experience programs based on student needs.

(b) A school district that offers firefighter and emergency service training as credit-earning courses shall provide transportation to and supervision during any firefighter and emergency service training program that takes place off school grounds. (2) Provide for the distribution, including through the department's Internet website, to school entities or private, nonpublic, elementary or secondary schools in this Commonwealth, teacher curriculum materials and other available resources, including economic education partnership programs, on economic education and personal financial literacy, including the basic principle involved with earning, spending, saving and investing money. (3) Identify and recognize Commonwealth schools that implement exemplary economic and economic education and personal financial literacy curricula at each benchmark as set forth in existing State standards for Economics, Family and Consumer Science, and Career Education and Work as set forth in 22 Pa. (b) In distributing materials and resources for use in schools, the department shall consider those currently available through international, national, Statewide and local economic, banking trade and personal finance education organizations. The report shall: (1) Outline agricultural education programs and achievements. (m) By May 1, 2018, and by May 1 of each year thereafter, the commission shall submit a report to the Governor and the General Assembly on the status of agricultural education in this Commonwealth. (5) Investigate, review and issue an annual report on the status of agricultural education required under subsection (m). (4) Provide support and coordination for Statewide and local activities related to FFA programs.
